Real Freedom

Two women happened to be seated next to each other on a plane and
struck up an earnest conversation about their respective
hometowns.

"Where I'm from," one woman sniveled, "we place all our emphasis
on breeding."

Her new companion, unimpressed, smiled, "We think that's a lot of
fun, too -- but we do find time for other pursuits."

Some people highly value breeding, or social standing, or
education, or money largely for the purpose of elevating their
stature. They want to please and impress. They believe that to be
"well-bred, well-fed, well-read and well-wed" will ensure a
lifetime of happiness and success (and a satisfying bit of
deference from others).

These symbols have little meaning for other individuals. They
neither desire nor seek a higher stature in the eyes of others.
The only power which interests them is power from within. The
only standards to which they conform are those they set for
themselves. The only person they really want to please and
impress is the one looking back in the mirror. These individuals
are truly free.

Entertainer Bill Cosby wisely said, "I don't know the key to
success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody."
Who decides what is important to you? Who sets your standards?
Ultimately, whom will you decide to please?

Answer these questions well and you will not only know happiness,
you will be free!
