Online Friends

I cannot wait for my day to start,
And I turn my 'puter on.
I want to see who dropped a line,
In the short time I was gone.

Years ago, it was with cigarettes,
That I'd start and end each day.
But now from dawn, I search and surf.
Till time to hit the hay.

Friends from near and far away,
Send notes to just say 'hi',
And when I'm down and feeling low,
They make the hours fly.

I know there's some I'll never meet,
And yet I call them 'friend',
We've passed on family photographs,
In messages, we send.

On Holidays and Birthdays too,
The E-mail box fills up.
You can't be lonely, while on-line,
Love overflows your cup.

So many old folks, just like me,
Will just sit and waste away,
When they could easily go on-line,
And brighten up their day.

Take some old codger by the hand,
And sit them by the screen,
Then take the time to show them,
The miracles that can be seen.

Some old people never age,
They're young in heart and mind,
Like little children, they just know,
There's still much left to find.

So to my fellow senior friends,
I'll pass this word to you.
Quit feeling sorry that you're old,
You still have lots to do.

Find some way to get on line,
Then friends will write each day.
There won't be time to feel so sad,
They'll blow the blues away.
