If I could a Tailor or a seamstress be
I’d sew a fine garment for you and for me
Not of wool fabric, or silk soft on the hand
Nothing expensive or in lots of demand
It would cover us both from head to toe
And fill us with caring like few ever know
Woven by the hand of God up above
Each fiber and thread created with love
It would be any color we wanted to see
This garment I’d fashion for you and for me
It would never wear out, be in need of repair
And when worn correctly could sorrows share
It could cross any barrier thrown in its way
God’s thread would be in it, as we went through each day
No child would be hungry, know anger or hate
Pure love would be worn like fine food on a plate
Weapons would not travel with kids to school
For the ‘Golden Rule’ would be everyone’s tool
There’d be no bigotry or gangs to fear
No sharing of things that drove away cheer
When life was over and its sun finally sat
We’d know were we’d traveled and where we were at
We’d sing with the angels far up in the skies
Be able to almost see life through God’s eyes
Wearing our garments throughout each day
Would help us all live in a much better way
The elderly folks would not fear growing old
But be sheltered by younger ones stronger and bold
Yes, if I could a Tailor or seamstress be
I’d sew a fine garment for you and for me
Not fabric of wool or silk soft on the hand
Nothing expensive or much in demand
It would cover us both from head to toe
And fill us with caring like few ever know.
It would be woven by God up above
With each fiber and thread created in love
